PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS

 

Master of Arts in Education, Major in Educational Leadership and Management

This program develops research-oriented educational managers and leaders for public and private academic institutions. Graduates of this program—with their improved organizational effectiveness, leadership capability, and educational knowledge formation—are expected to support educational institutions in developing teaching strategies and to enhance the institutional administrative workforce. They will help lead their institutions toward realizing the goal of educational development for social transformation and community improvement.  

 

Master of Arts in Education, with specialization in Mathematics Teaching

This program develops pedagogical skills for teaching mathematics and clarifies the relationship between theory and practice in this field. The ultimate goal of this program is to produce educators with significant depth in the teaching of mathematics to enable them to contribute to its development.

 

Master of Arts in Education, with specialization in Early Childhood Education

The Early Childhood Education (ECE) program is for graduate students who are interested in developing leadership roles in this field. The program aims to prime graduates in developing, managing, and evaluating ECE programs as well as in implementing a developmental curriculum for children from birth through age 8. Students in this program are expected to acquire competency in terms of the cultural, linguistic, and pedagogical dimensions of ECE.

 

Master of Arts in Education, with specialization in Teaching English

The program is designed to develop in its students pedagogical skills for teaching English as well as knowledge and skills in curriculum design and materials preparation relevant to the specialization. The students are expected to acquire a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between the theoretical underpinnings of teaching English and the ways it is practiced in the classroom. The ultimate goal of this program is to equip English teachers with the foundations, approaches, and techniques for language education in general and, more specifically, for teaching English.

 

Master of Arts in Education, with specialization in Social Studies

The aim of this program is to develop social studies teachers who are themselves knowledgeable and engaged citizens of a democratic society and who can effectively impart to students the importance of acquiring comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the key dimensions of a purposeful civic life. The study of education for democracy provides the context for a review of the theories and practices of teaching social studies and how it is best learned.

 

Master of Arts in Education, with specialization in Teaching Filipino

This program aims to develop students’ knowledge and skills in teaching Filipino from a review of the theoretical and conceptual underpinnings of learning a language. With the theoretical and conceptual frameworks as context, teaching practices in the classroom are presented, studied, and provided with substance through examinations of Filipino cultural icons and indigenous knowledge.

 

Master of Arts in Education, with specialization in Science Education

The program is designed to prepare effective science educators through coursework and empirical experiences. It emphasizes teaching a diversity of learners by contextualizing scientific concepts and principles, thus bridging the gap between theory and practice. The faculty guide students to develop knowledge and skills in science by actively exploring phenomena using scientific methods that emphasize detailed observation, critical thinking, and insightful reflection.

 

Master of Arts in Education, with specialization in Special Education

This program is for students choosing to fully understand differences in learning abilities and the ways in which individuals, families, schools, and local communities work to improve the quality of life and outcomes for individuals with giftedness or learning challenges. The students will be equipped with the required knowledge, competence, values, and skills to meet the unique and special academic and therapeutic requirements of children and youth with special needs.

 

Master of Arts in Education, with specialization in Guidance and Counseling

This program is for students interested in careers as public and private school counselors, college and university counselors, and other positions in counseling. It enhances the knowledge and skills in psychological counseling and in providing effective guidance services to all types of learners within an educational environment. The program aims to produce graduates who are competent in preventing problems and promoting optimal human development, as well as providing relevant and functional guidance and counseling services to learners in a variety of counseling settings.

 

Master of Arts in Education, with specialization in Educational Technology

Through this program, educational professionals will acquire the expertise to enhance teaching and learning using technology-based educational tools and resources. Those interested in online teaching, improving traditional classroom learning through technology, managing distance-education programs, and designing instructional modules for the purpose of developing an instructional framework for technology-based teaching and learning will find this program highly relevant.

 

Teacher Certificate Program

Non-education degree holders are provided, through this program, a thorough understanding of the basic concepts and principles of teaching and learning. The program covers educational methodologies, assessment, technology, and developmental reading. It prepares current or potential educators, with appropriate and relevant approaches, to handle students in a general education program.

COMPREHENSIVE EXAM SCHEDULE

From pencil and paper to keyboards and computers, the mechanics of the comprehensive exam for the RCI Graduate School of Education has been redesigned. This move was pioneered by the new dean of the college, Dr. Aldrin A. Darilag, who brought the pre-thesis requirement of the graduate studies to a whole new level.
