In 2002, Roosevelt College Science High School (RCSHS) was established as one of the units of the Roosevelt College System to train students who would one day become an expert in any field of science.

Upon its founding, RCSHS was bestowed with facilities which will enrich its students’ learning experience. Each of its classrooms that accommodates a maximum of only 30 students, was equipped with at least two air conditioners. It was also provided with its own library, a science laboratory, students’ lounge, and a computer room.

Its faculty is comprised of graduates from the nation’s most prestigious universities, which includes the University of the Philippines, the Ateneo de Manila University, and the Philippine Normal University. All of them have undergone specialized training in their respective subject areas and possess graduate units.

Moreover, RCSHS also prides itself with its advanced curriculum. The courses prescribed in the Department of Education’s Basic Education Curriculum are taught with more breadth and depth. Aside from these, additional subjects such as Environmental Science, Advanced Biology, Advanced Chemistry, Earth Science, Computer Science, Research, and even Robotics are also offered. Likewise, the Mathematics program also covers topics which are normally tackled by Engineering and Science majors.

Given these ingredients, RCSHS was able to make significant strides in the field of secondary science education in just a decade.

Since its opening, many of its graduates have already qualified in the most rigorous science programs of the Philippines’ top universities. Its current passing rate surpasses those of the older schools both in Region 4 and Metro Manila.

Moreover, RCSHS is also making its mark in premier inter-school science contests. In 2012, RCSHS bagged the top prizes in the Science Quest in Region IV-A. In the concluded 2011-2012 Science Quest, RCSHS delegates were heralded as champions in the Science Quest once more, not just in the regional level but in the national level as well.

Two more students made a name for RCSHS when they participated in yet another Regional Science Quest for Private Schools. The event was held last October 26, 2013 at Trece Martires High School in Cavite City. Their research entry was “Absorption of Hexavalent Chromium in Water Using Bones of Milkfish (Chanos chanos).

The students are not the only ones bringing honor to the school. In the concluded English for Southeast Asia (ESEA) Conference held at the Sanata Dharma University in Indonesia, one of the faculty members presented a paper on how to facilitate science learning in English classes. His lecture received several positive feedbacks from representatives of universities in Southeast Asia and beyond.

Aside from these golden harvests, the school also hosts a Science Fair every year in which science magic presentations and top-of-the-line research projects are featured. And, to accompany the Science Fair, the Philippine Astronomical Society, the nation’s leading astronomy organization, conducted the very first RCSHS Astro Camp.

In compliance with the order of the Department of Education, Roosevelt College Science High School is now offering a Senior High School program. Students who would continue to study in Grades 11 and 12 in RCSHS will take up the STEM strand, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. This seeks to further help students in becoming experts in the field of science.

Last April, the Far Eastern University has closed the deal of acquiring Roosevelt College Inc. Since then, gradual improvements have begun to take effect.

Up to this day, RCSHS continues to further improve its facilities and upgrade its Robotics program as well as other programs to give its students more hands-on training in science. Furthermore, the school looks forward to sending more students and teachers to international conferences and competitions.
