Last January 28, 2013, INHE’s Nightingale Society held a Bingo Bonanza, the proceeds of which were earmarked for the conduct of a medical mission entitled “Special Medical Action Response Team: Medical Consultation and Diagnostic Evaluation.” The medical mission took place at the Roosevelt College Marikina Gymnasium on February 24, 2013, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The event catered to Roosevelt College employees and their families as well.
It took the organizers almost a month to prepare the paper works and invitations for the needed health care workforce like doctors, medical technicians, and wellness program coordinators to render their valuable services. We communicated with the following:
- Dr. Enrico Ignacio, officer of the Rotary Club of Marikina and Marikina Valley Medical Society for the needed doctors for the event;
- Ms. Prem Lagrimas, supervisor of Herbalife for the wellness program;
- The Office of the Vice Mayor Dr. Fabian Cadiz for the use of ECG machine and its interpretation;
- Mrs. Isabelita Cruz, medical technologist and owner of St. Isabel Polyclinic and Laboratory, for the diagnostic evaluations;
- Mrs. Flordeliza Dizon, directress of RC Marikina for the venue; and
- RC Cainta and RC Marikina administrators, heads, and staff who were to attend as our patients.
On February 5, 2013, 365 staff and employees of RC Cainta and RC Marikina pre-registered for the event.
Few weeks prior to the event, five committees were formed in order to promote organization and coordination during the event. The committees were the following: Committee on Medicines, Physical Arrangement Committee, Food and Refreshments Committee, Reception Committee, and Communication and Documentation Committee. A faculty member of INHE headed each committee. In addition, Nursing students and Care Giver students had their own tasks during the event.
The committees prepared the printing of certificates, monitoring sheets, registration forms, and attendance sheets. The organizers also bought boxes of medications needed for the event. The Roosevelt College Alumni batch 1969, together with Dr. Ignacio, donated medications as well. All were prepared, including the venue, on February 23.
During the event, organizers arrived at 6:30 in the morning, together with the caregivers, nursing students, and faculty members. Patients arrived early in the day, and the organizers, committee members, faculty members, and students cheerfully did the tasks assigned to them. Out of 365 pre-registered clients, 245 participated in the event. There were 75 clients who underwent the laboratory/diagnostic procedures, 45 in the foot screening procedures (for Diabetes), and 61 who underwent the electrocardiography (ECG) procedure. There were a total of 11 doctors, 4 medical technicians, 4 wellness program coordinators, 1 ECG technician, and 1 foot-screening technician. All of the patients received their needed attention, care, procedures, and medications.
Indeed, the event was a great success!
All members of the committees and all the other involved individuals did their jobs so well!
All the patients were so grateful that the institute conducted a noble event like this, and they hoped that this event would take place yearly if possible.
