AUSTRALIAN FASHION OF THE 21st CENTURY
SAINT THOMAS CONCERT "HANDOG"
The name is Maria Luz I. Enciso, call her Iyah for short. She is a versatile student from Roosevelt College. Sort of a Jack of All Trades-student, scholar, performer, model. You name it, she can be or at least try to be that person.
Born on the 14th of July, 1987, she is a full time scholar in Roosevelt College, taking up double degree in Management and Public Administration. At the same time, she is the Student Assistant of Mrs. Elsa Tuazon, the guidance counselor in Roosevelt College.
She started modeling on the month of June, 2008. She cat walked under the FashionSense Magallanes Production. From there, she started receiving offers, pageants and projects after that. But due to school demands, her modeling became second priority because she deems studies as her top concern. She doesn't want to have a grade lower than 2.00 because she aspires to be an honor student and consecutively joining the prestigious Honor Society of Roosevelt College.
But all through that, she still has a career in modeling although it is just part time. She now not only models but directs her own fashion shows as well. At the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, she had directed the "Le Vogue Fashion Show which was held last January 24, 2009. She was prompted to be the director for Section (Broadcasting Students) BBrC3-4. The theme she had conceptualized was concentrating on "AUSTRALIAN FASHION OF THE 21ST CENTURY." Out of the 8 groups that had participated, they won second place. Her proteges were thankful and Roosevelt College was really proud for her achievement.
Aside from that, she also do theater. One highlight of her acting career was when she joined the "HANDOG" concert by St. Thomas. Her group, the ArThES or Artistic theater for Evangelization Society performed the piece "Ikaw ang Aking Pangarap." She was really commended for her outstanding performance.
She pursues these activities because these are her interests. Although she gets tired at times, she gets to enjoy the whole process.
Of all these activities she currently do, her studies is her top priority. But in reality, according to her, she is actively doing all.
She gets all the energy she's doing with self-motivation. She tells that particularly she gets stronger whenever there are criticizing people. She tells herself that she should never give up and to give all her best specially during oppressing times. When more is expected from her, she makes sure that she gives more of what is demanded. Add to that survivor factor is that she has a lot of inspiration ins life-people who believes her and her potential-family, professors, friends.
Many people are proud of her because inspite of her tight schedule at school and her various activities outside school; she still has a good performance in school. People often wonder how she could handle her time. They say that she is an achiever at a very young age. "They do hope that I could continue doing this," says this 21 years old lady.
Wait, can't get a load of her, well, her upcoming activities would be being one of the fashion directions for FashionSense for Batch 12. She also joined Roosevelt Advocacy. She was also picked to handle the andle the new cheerleading organization-"Roosevelt Eagles." With this organization, they would like to join the NCC or the National Cheerleading Competition. Iyah had said to her self that this could help promoting the college and at the same time, many students are interested and excited about it.
She offers all her activities now to every sector that makes up her university. She owe all these accomplishments to God, her professors; Mrs. Elsa Tuazon, guidance counselor and to her family and friends that had supported her along the way. If she could say something to them for the last time, she would give her gratitute for all the support, guidance and boost of confidence especially during hard times when only a few people believes in her.
Right now, she dreams and aspires to be an inspiration to others as well. She often would advise her beloved admirers to continue fighting during crucial times, to think positive and to always ask guidance from the Lord Almighty. If ever, she would like to be remembered as a ROOSEVELTIAN! She wants that when her name is mentioned, they would say, " Oh, that is Iyah...she's strong, steadfast and have faith in God!"
One of the missions of the Roosevelt College System is to cultivate the mind, body and spirit of the student for total progress. A very worthy mission because a sound body generally leads to a sound mind. And a sound mind is a wellspring of worthwhile ideas. Brawn and brain can work together and produce amazing results.
And what better way to promote a sound body than to provide opportunities to participate in sports and encourage students to engage in it and at the same time bring honor to themselves and RCS.
RCS participates in PRISAA and provincial sports meets (RCS will host the PRISAA in November 2009) and it has a track record. During last November Rizal provincial meet, RCS captured the Badminton Single A championship in men's and women's divisions. RCS athletes also placed 1st runner in Badminton Single A and Double. The Taekwondo men snatched 2 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals. The Taekwondo women settled for one gold and two silver medals.
In table tennis, RCS athletes are champions in Single A, men's and women's divisions. An athlete placed 1st runner-up in Single B, men's division and two women placed 1st runner up in the doubles.
In the PRISAA provincial meet held November 21-23, 2008, the Badminton men and women were champions in Single B. The men snatched the championship in Single A and doubles in table tennis. An RCS lady got the gold in Single A.
In Taekwondo, the men went home with 2 golds, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals. The women snatched 1 gold, 2 silvers and 2 bronze medals.
The champions and gold medalists will automatically represent Rizal in the Regional PRISAA to be held at the Manuel Enverga University Foundation, Lucena City this February.
Hence, it is not a waste of resources to invest in sports. In fact, it is amazing that despite the limited resources of our college, our athletes brought home the bacon! For this reason, we are launching the Adopt-an-Athlete project to provide scholarships to deserving RCS students to encourage them to bring laurels to the college. And who knows? Maybe ultimately bring glory to our country!
We are knocking at your hearts to shell out P70,000 a year or P35,000 a semester to adopt an athlete to encourage him/her to be the best that he/she can be in sports. Alternatively, you can donate any amount you want to share and this will go to the athletic scholarship fund pool where we shall draw funds to support an athlete or, hopefully, athletes.
Or you can establish your own scholarship program with us to support a deserving student or students.
The amount of P70,000 is broken down as follows:
Tuition and other fees(As assessed but not to exceed) - P19,000/sem
Book allowance - 3,500/sem
Monthly Stipend @2,500 - 12,500/sem Total P35,000/sem or P70,000/year per student
In this time of economic crunch, shelling out some money may be difficult. But we are counting on your Christian values and corporate responsibility to pay forward by sharing some funds to help those who need financial assistance.
The Roosevelt College System maintains campuses in Lamuan, Malanday, Marikina City and Cainta, Rizal, among others. It is a nurturing educational institution which prepares graduates to be highly competitive, responsive to change and deeply committed to live in harmony with the environment and society. In addition to cultivating the mind, body and spirit of the student for total progress, it also seeks to instill the value of science and to make real the virtue of industry.
